The "Rain Catcher" at the Mendocino County Office of Education in Talmadge, Mendocino County, was one of the first systems installed by the NCRC&DC. Our NCRC&DC Coordinator worked with the MCOE in designing the system, and we purchased and delivered the tank to the site for installation. This tank is used to water the school garden during the dry summer months, including a new orchard. If the tank hadn't existed, the drought years would have caused the garden and orchard to fail to thrive. The "Rain Catcher" allowed stored water to be used to irrigate the garden and orchard even in drought years.
The tank and the garden area can be seen in this great video--check it out: Rain Catchers in Your School
